Denominación de Origen Almansa concludes the harvest period throughout its production area, after approximately two months of harvesting the grape varieties used to make the wines for the 2024 vintage.
In general terms, it has been a harvest in which the grapes have been in excellent health, ‘with the most outstanding ripening and quality in recent years, both in red and white grapes’, as highlighted by the professionals of the DO Almansa. As for the grape load, it has been higher than in 2023, but lower than in 2022 or 2020.
Adolfo Cano, president of DO Almansa, stresses that ‘the balance of the 2024 harvest is very positive, with grapes of very good quality and grade, despite the period of drought and lack of water that we have been experiencing since 2022. As far as the harvest period is concerned, we have had hardly any problems or setbacks due to the weather’. In addition, ‘the weather has respected us practically throughout the entire DO Almansa, without having to lament heavy rains that have caused us to lose a lot of the harvest’.
However, we should not overlook the rainy period in September, which delayed the harvest to some extent, as it meant that the grapes reached their optimum ripening point later than expected.
The weather conditions during the ripening months were excellent, which made up for the lack of water that we have been experiencing since 2023. We had a cooler summer than in 2022 and 2023, with a cool September and cold nights. This meant that the grapes were able to reach the winery in better conditions and with an excellent ripening finish.
With all of this, and once this stage of the harvest is over, we hope that the wines of this 2024 vintage will have one of the best qualities in recent memory of the last decade.
