The Almansa Designation of Origin continues with an intense promotional activity of our wines during this spring in collaboration with different entities of the national and regional wine sector.
On 24 April, at the UCLM E.T.S.I Agronomic Forestry and Biotechnology School in Albacete, a tasting of wines from the region took place through the Tierra de Viñedos Foundation organised by the Castilla La Mancha Regional Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The event was attended by more than 100 people, including future professionals of the sector and representatives of the different administrations. The tasting was led by the oenologist Pedro Sarrión, where the DO Almansa presented the characteristics of our production area and they were able to learn first-hand about the singularity of the Garnacha Tintorera, being our appellation of origin the one that represents the largest production of this unique variety, which undoubtedly surprised those present with its intense colour and aromas.
Another of the activities in which the DO Almansa has been present these days has been the 40th anniversary of the EXPOVICAMAN and FIQAB fairs, both held at the Albacete fairgrounds from 9 to 12 May. EXPOVICAMAN, together with the II edition of the International Cheese Fair of Albacete, has become the reference fair for the agricultural and livestock sector in Castilla-La Mancha.
Both have come together, making it a successful edition with a large public attendance and in which our wines were present at the stand set up for the designations of origin of Albacete, making known the high quality of our wines and our area to both professionals and the final consumer, along with other products with quality of origin of the region that could be tasted during the fair and the various activities and samples of the agricultural sector that have been developed during the same.
In addition, closing these promotional activities in the province and coinciding with the Albacete fair, this past Saturday 11 May also took place, as has been customary in recent years, the toast to the DO Wine Day.
On this occasion, the DO Almansa joined the rest of the 35 wine Designations of Origin from 14 autonomous communities that celebrated this festive and vindictive event, promoted by the Spanish Conference of Wine Regulatory Councils (CECRV). DO Wine Day is organised with a twofold objective: to bring people closer to one of the most closely linked and prestigious products in rural areas, wine with designation of origin, and at the same time to vindicate the values and positive impact that wine designations of origin have on the territories in which they are located and on the communities in which they live. This year, in what is going to be its eighth edition, all the activities were carried out under the leitmotif ‘The designations of origin give life to our villages. Let’s celebrate what unites us!’
With the DO Wine Day 2024, the aim is to make visible that wine appellations of origin promote more cohesive and united communities, as they help to generate identity, roots and a sense of belonging. In addition, they contribute to the preservation and enhancement of the tangible and intangible heritage of that territory and facilitate the socio-economic and cultural development of the areas, providing traditions and customs that help to structure the social interactions of the people who live and work in rural areas.
In short, designations of origin contribute to strengthening the social fabric, which benefits the inhabitants of the area as a whole and, by extension, society as a whole.
