The DO Almansa faces the start of the 2025 harvest with very good prospects. After these last weeks of July and August marked by high temperatures, the campaign arrives somewhat earlier than usual, although maintaining practically the same dates as in 2024.

Beginning with white varieties
Adolfo Cano, president of DO Almansa, has confirmed that it will be during these last days of August when the harvest of the first white varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Verdejo will begin. These grapes “show excellent health,” as well as a “very good balance between acidity, pH, and degree of ripeness. This will allow the production of fresh white wines, with great fruit load and high quality.”

Mid-September, the turn of Garnacha Tintorera
As for the timing of the red varieties, “the first harvest will begin in the first week of September. Afterwards, Garnacha Tintorera, the emblematic and native variety of DO Almansa, will start to be harvested between September 10 and 15 in the area.” Regarding Monastrell, according to Adolfo Cano, “harvest is expected to begin at the end of September.”
Excellent harvest forecast
Adolfo Cano indicated that they expect DO Almansa wineries to collect “between 20 and 25 million kilos of grapes” during the 2025 harvest. This represents “an increase compared to last year, when the harvest was shorter due to the accumulated effects of years of severe drought, especially between 2022 and 2024.” Therefore, on this occasion, the volume of the harvest will be “higher than in 2024,” although it will remain “in the average of the last 10 years, ensuring a balanced and ideal volume to produce our bottled wines with the usual quality.”

A harvest marked by grape quality and health
The sanitary conditions of the vineyard look very favorable: “the quality of the grape is what I can highlight the most, with very healthy clusters,” stresses Adolfo Cano. However, from DO Almansa the usual caution is maintained at this time of year, always looking to the sky: “We hope that the weather respects us and we do not suffer episodes of heavy rain or hail in our production area.” With all this, Adolfo Cano foresees that “2025 will bring us a very good harvest,” thus consolidating the prestige and projection of the wines of the DO Almansa.
