Denomination of Origin Almansa will once again achieve historic bottling figures in 2022. During the past year, the level of DO Almansa bottles sold worldwide exceeded 6.7 million. This figure is also in addition to important developments in terms of production standards in order to continue to focus on the highest quality criteria in the production of our wines.
Adolfo Cano, president of DO Almansa explains that “2022 means the confirmation of having left the pandemic behind and that annually, our DO is at an average bottling level of about 6.6 million bottles per year, an extraordinary figure and that confirms the great work being done by all the professionals in our production area. It should be taken into account that in 2017 we had not even exceeded the level of 5 million bottles sold.”
Changes in quality standards.
With all this, we must also refer to one of the most important developments in recent months for our DO Almansa, as far as quality standards are concerned, working to protect the quality required in our specifications. The latest update of the standard means that, in addition to the update of different parameters in the production standard, it includes the section establishing that for a wine to be DO Almansa it must be bottled in
one of the wineries in the production area of the Denomination of Origin Almansa.
In addition, following the publication of an implementing regulation published in the Official Journal of the European Union, the various adaptations to the regulation of the description of the analytical parameters of the wines, the redefinition of the organoleptic characteristics and the adequacy of the specific oenological practices are modified. In addition, two new varieties, Macabeo and Cabernet Franc, are included in our
specifications.
A 2023 full of promotional events at national and international level.
Once again, this year, Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell, the native varieties of our production area, have continued to have an important international pull in all markets. Likewise, and highlighting the very important role of our DO Almansa as an added value
for our wines, Adolfo Cano emphasizes the fact that “the customer is looking for wines of increasingly higher quality, and that is what we will continue to work on from DO Almansa, so that the quality label on our wines is our best asset”.
These data allow us to continue focusing on 2023 with great enthusiasm, and with important national and international actions that we will continue to carry out throughout this year in which we have already been in events such as Prowein (Germany), the Barcelona Wine Week (Spain) and the III Salón de Vinos DO Almansa in Madrid.
