GRAPE VARIETIES

The wines of the DO Almansa are classified by the following categories according to their colour and maturity.

MONASTRELL

Intense ruby colour. Makes fine wines with proper ageing.

GARNACHA TINTORERA

Has a high concentration in colour, high acidity, excellent to give structure.

TEMPRANILLO

Makes quality wines. Aromatic, medium acidity and alcoholic development, with a ruby colour and a fruity flavour that is used both for young and aged wines.

GARNACHA

Is a variety resistant to drought. It has less colour than other varieties, and is often used for rosé wines.

MERLOT

Has the ability to produce delicious and fine, fresh wines with a hint of red fruit. Suitable for young wines.

SYRAH

Is perfectly adapted to our area of Almansa. Makes spicy wines with colour and flavour, also used for rosé wines.

CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Contains large amounts of polyphenols and colour. Perfect for high quality wines and ideal for ageing.

PETIT VERDOT

Long cultivation cycles and late maturing, good for aged wines. Contains great colour and polyphenols.

CHARDONNAY

Produces fine quality wines, with a high alcohol content and acidity, mixed with great aroma.

SAUVIGNON BLANC

High alcohol potential and acidity. Makes elegant, dry acid and very aromatic wines.

VERDEJO

Makes wines with good volume on the palate, aromatic and suitable for ageing.

MOSCATEL DE GRANO MENUDO

High sugar content, high alcohol potential, very suitable for sweet wines.
